Chapter Six

Dae didn’t even want to cry... she was just that furious and still was the next day when she woke up. How dare he? First, being a jealous asshole and second, accusing her and her grandmother of living off the men in their town. Oh no, she didn’t want to hear shit he had to say, and he had called on repeat throughout the night until she turned off her phone and went to sleep. When she turned it on, there were multiple texts, all apologetic and she didn’t respond to those either.

She had no clients for the day, so Dae decided to go down to the beach. The doorbell rang and she dropped her head with a sigh. She hoped to God to be able to get out to the beach without talking to anyone.

Grannie Fran was already gone and if this were Sean at her door, it would be slammed in his face.

Dae then screamed, she was pleasantly surprised to see her close college friend Cynthia at the door with wide open arms and a smile on her face.

“Guess who?” Cynthia screamed.

Dae’s squealed. “Cynthia what the... oh my God, you’re here! How...why?”

“I had a business trip in Charlotte and took a few extra days to surprise you.” Cynthia grinned. “Here I am.”

They embraced and Dae stepped back to look at her friend.

Cynthia had her dark hair in a pixie cut with streaks of red in the longer locks that framed her face. Cynthia was a few shades lighter than Dae because of her mixed heritage. She was tall but curvy and when they were together or even traveling, Dae had the most fun.

“Dae!” Sean came running up the sidewalk and then the steps to her house. “I’ve been calling you.”

“Yes, I know, and I chose not to answer,” Dae said coolly. “I think you said enough last night, don’t you?”

“Dae, please,” Sean begged. “I was angry and the whole fight with Jerry...”

“Oh, chilly reception and a fight.” Cynthia stepped back. “Should I be introduced, Dae?”

“No, Sean Kingsley does not exist in my world,” Dae said simply.

“Man, you must’ve fucked up royally to be banished from her slice of the universe.” Cynthia looked Sean up and down. “Pity.”

“Dae, you’re being ridiculous.” Sean blew out a frustrated breath. “It was an argument, we both said things.”

“The hell we did, what did I say but goodnight?” Dae replied. “Some apology, go home Sean before you think I need money or I’m trying to trap you.”

“Whoa, he said that?” Cynthia asked her voice filling with outrage.

“Who is this any way?” Sean asked in exasperation.

“I’m Cynthia one of her best friends,” Cynthia replied. “I’m wondering if I need to call the crew to descend upon on this town for insulting our Dae.”

“This is between Dae and me,” Sean said. “Dae, can we just talk alone?”

“No, no you shouldn’t come inside my abode in case me and my grandmother hoodoo you and you end up buying wedding rings,” Dae replied. “I bid you good day sir.
